Adults refer to animals or humans which have attained their maximum development. Adults are considered to be a social notion and a legal one in the human world. In contrast to a non-adult or "minor" legally adult is at the point of majority. They are considered an independent, self-sufficient person and responsible. Also, they can be described as an "major". 18 years is considered an adult legal age but this definition can differ depending on the country, rights of the law or mental development.

Following middle age (starting around age 40) then comes the age of old age (around the age of 60). The three phases of adulthood are early adulthood (from the mid 30s until late 60s) mid-adulthood between mid-30s to late-60s and later adulthood, (mid-60s up to end of life). When we enter the age of early adulthood (20 to mid-40s), our physical maturation is completed, though our weight and height could increase a bit. As we enter our early twenties, the physical capabilities of our bodies reach their highest levels. These include muscle strength as well as reaction speed.
